KARACHI, March 22: The city government wants to see the price of tetra milk printed on each pack with the production and expiry dates mentioned clearly. This is one of the important parts of the terms of reference of the 24-member committee set up by the city government on March 15 at a meeting to look into the affairs of the tetra milk producers.
Attended by the packed milk producers’ representatives, it had been decided at the meeting that the committee would also hold a meeting with the producers of tetra milk of various brands and similarly would get the cost of production, profit margin and availability of tetra milk to the people and fix price on each pack of milk with dates of production and expiry shown thereon.
The exercise shall be completed within 30 days and a comprehensive report submitted to the DCO with points of difference if existed.
Karachi DCO Fazlur Rahman, who presided over the meeting, also directed the tetra milk producers for detailed working, showing the cost of production and profit margin of their products within 15 days to the committee. He further observed that at present no price was mentioned on the packed milk and this was a cause of concern for the public as well as for the district controller of prices.

In answer to a question that tetra milk price fixing issue would face the same inordinate delays as fresh milk, he said the government was taking time in order to reach a long-term solution. However, he said that so far tetra milk producers had not shown any resistance in providing any details sough by the government.
