LAHORE, March 19: A security guard of a local hotel was found murdered in the Ghalib Market area on Monday morning. Police claimed that the murder was a result of some old enmity, but the killers had tried to give it a robbery-cum-murder touch.
They said Azmat Abbas, 32, of Chakwal, was on night duty while his two colleagues were asleep. Unidentified people came to the hotel in the early hours of Monday and slit open the throat and belly of Azmat.
Hotel manager Abdul Rahim told police that Rs85,000 in cash were also found missing from the counter.
The police removed the body to the city mortuary for autopsy and registered a murder case.
An elderly woman was found dead in her house in Gulshan-i-Ravi.
Police said they had found Asima Sharif, 70, dead on her bed in her Gulfishan Colony residence.
They said Asima’s servants Parveen and Shahid informed them about the incident.
DIE ON ROAD: Two people were run over by a speeding tractor-trolley on The Mall near canal bridge in the early hours of Monday.
Police said Zahoor, 22, of Mughalpura and Shaukat Ali, 23, of Tajpura Scheme, were coming from the Bedian Road on a motorcycle when a tractor-trolley coming from the Jail Road side crushed them. They died on the spot.
The tractor driver managed his escape leaving the vehicle behind.
According to police, the family of Zahoor refused to take action against the driver and received the body without legal formalities. However, a case was registered on the complaint of Sardar, Shaukat’s father.
FOUND DEAD: A married woman was found dead in her room in Jauhar Town on Sunday night.
Police investigators said they had found evidence that she was hanged to death. They said they were investigating the incident from both aspects of murder and suicide.
According to them, the body had no torture marks and the cause of her death could be ascertained after autopsy.
Faisal Hafeez told police that his wife Saima, 22, locked herself in a room at around 6:15pm and committed suicide by hanging herself. He could not give a reason for her act.
On the other hand, Saima’s brother Nadeem Butt suspected that his sister was strangulated.
The police claimed that Nadeem had decided that he would wait for autopsy report till the registration of a case.
