SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 19: The district Nazim on Friday presented the first budget for the year 2001-2002 under the new district government system at the district assembly.
Presenting a surplus budget, Nazim Chaudhry Allah Tawakal said the provincial government would provide Rs1.8 billion for non-productive expenditure and Rs256 million for various development schemes. An amount of Rs297.9 million would be the income of the district government from local government funds.
He said Rs33 million would be realized through various taxes which would be imposed from January 2002 under the powers given by the provincial government to the district government.
He said Rs437.1 million had been earmarked for 263 uplift schemes. “When the financial year ends on June 30, 2002, the district government will be left with Rs35.4 million as surplus amount,” he said.—APP
