OKARA, March 13: The city police have registered a case against MPA and district PPP president Ashraf Sohna and 14 others, including eight unidentified people, under PPC and Anti-Terrorism Act.
Besides Sohna, Rafiq, Dilshad alias Kala Gujjar, Rafiq Sajid, Ijaz Shah, Hafeez alias Fauji and Aslam and eight others were booked under Section 7 of ATA, and 353, 341, 188, 148 and 149 PPC.
The case was registered on Monday night on the charges of burning tyres and disrupting the procession of Hazrat Imam Husain’s Chehlum.
It is learnt that the police sought permission from Punjab Assembly speaker before registering the case. Moreover, the chief minister gave approval and the case was registered against the MPA who was already in custody.
Later on Tuesday, Okara DSP Younis Butt took the MPA and Aslam to Lahore and produced them before the court of anti-terrorism judge Zawar Husain who remanded him in police custody for a day with the directive to produce them again on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the city representatives of Anjuman-i-Tajran held dialogues with DPO Mirza Faran Baig on Monday night and secured the release of traders Khalid and another. After that they withdrew the strike call for Tuesday.
