UK soldier dies in Afghanistan

LONDON, March 8: A British soldier was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, the ministry of defence said. The unnamed member of 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery was killed when a grenade was fired at a British base in Sangin, Helmand province.

The soldier died in hospital at Camp Bastion from his injuries. Next of kin have been informed.

The serviceman is the 52nd British service member to die in Afghanistan since 2001.—Reuters
