ISLAMABAD, March 7: The government has projected to export more than 125,000 tons of potatoes to Iran during the current fiscal year.
An official in the commerce ministry said due to dwindled stocks of potatoes in Iran, Pakistani exporters would export the commodity to the Iranian market.
Apart from potatoes, Iran has already imported around 800 tons of vegetables from Pakistan to meet their local demand.
Iranian importers had recently approached their Pakistani counterparts for necessary supply of potatoes due to shortage in their country.
Iran had been a regular exporter of potatoes to the Russian states, and last year due to excessive exports its own stocks dwindled, owing to which it has been forced to import potatoes from Pakistan.
