HYDERABAD, March 6: A large number of teachers and employees of the Sindh Agriculture University staged a rally at the campus and a sit-in on the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road to protest over a recent attack on the university which included torching of vehicles.

They said that the February 24 attack was an act of terrorism in which many influential persons were involved and the killing of a university student was used as a ploy to ransack the university.

They regretted that the members of the assemblies, intellectuals and writers had remained silent on the heinous crime.

They demanded an inquiry into the incident by a panel of Sindh High Court judges, compensation for university employees and others whose vehicles had been torched and deterrent punishment for those involved in the attack.

They pledged to continue protest till the acceptance of their demands.

As a result of the sit-in, vehicular traffic remained suspended on the road for quite some time.

Our Larkana Correspondent adds: A meeting of the Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association was held in the Z. A. Bhutto Agriculture College on Tuesday to condemn the attack on the university.

Ghulam Qadir Chandio chaired the meeting which deplored that the attack had caused loss of millions to the university and termed it a `deadly blow’ to higher education in Sindh.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy and this is the only university in the province which imparts agricultural education,” the meeting observed.

It termed the attack a threat to the sanctity of educational institutes and noted that it had created scare among the students and employees.

The meeting called upon the government to arrest and punish those involved in the attack.
