KARACHI: Action demanded

KARACHI, March 5: The Air League of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Employees Union has demanded of the government to take action against PIA chairman and his colleagues and appoint a person having experience in the field of aviation to save the national flag carrier from complete disaster.

In a statement issued here, Air League Secretary-General Shamim Akmal said that in October last the European Union pointed out some minor safety-related issues in the PIA aircraft but the PIA and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) did not pay any attention towards their complaints.

He alleged that the airline failed to rectify the European Union (EU) complaints in its aircraft, as the chairman wanted to acquire new aircraft on lease by disposing off the existing one on cheap rates.

Mr Akmal said that the wrong policies of the PIA management resulted in a ban by the EU on PIA’s Boeing 747-200, 747-300 and Airbus A-310.

He demanded of the government to take notice of the EU ban and save the airline from further deterioration.—Staff Reporter
