PESHAWAR, March 1: The NWFP government has approved a pay package for professors, associate professors and assistant professors to be recruited by the Gomal Medical College, Saidu Medical College and Khyber Girls Medical College on contractual basis.
According to the package, professors would get Rs150,000, associate professors Rs100,000, and assistant professors Rs80,000 under a temporary contractual arrangement. The decision, according to Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, would attract highly qualified teaching staff to all new medical colleges in the province and would ultimately lead to quality education in the medical colleges, said a handout.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by the chief minister on Thursday. It was attended by senior officials besides Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi.
Regular professors would get Rs50,000, associate professors Rs30,000, and assistant professors Rs20,000 in addition to their existing emoluments.
Mr Durrani directed the finance department to immediately sanction posts for the Gomal Medical College (GMC). A committee to recruit teaching staff for the GMC was also formed. The chief minister further directed to tackle the promotional matters of various grades of professors and teaching staff and to expedite it. He also directed to expedite the promotion of doctors.
He also directed to expedite PC-I and other allied construction work on Nowshera Hospital, Cardiology Centre Peshawar, Saidu Medical College (SMC) and GMC. He said that these projects had been approved by ECNEC. He said that tenders for these be floated immediately and the work should be divided in packages.
The chief minister said that his government had already approved the provision of necessary prerequisites for the GMC and SMC so that these projects could be recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.
He said that the GMC building should have all essential requirements, including a teaching hall and laboratory, and the existing school should be shifted to a rented building.
An amount of Rs11 million was also sanctioned. He asked the finance department to immediately release the amount. He directed the Home department to provide equipment for the museum of the Gomal Medical College.
GMC’s principal was appointed as project director. He asked the administration of the SMC and GMC to visit the Khyber Girls Medical College to note the placement of incentives and mode of teaching in their respective institutions.
He also approved Rs 5 million in addition for renovation of the GMC building to make it in consonance with the requirements of the PMDC.
The chief minister said that his government has ensured the provision of resources to institutions.
However, he said that the delay in implementation was really hurting him, and added that if there was any delay on the part of any government department, it should be brought to his notice so that stern action should be initiated against those responsible. Mr Durrani agreed to provide house requisition facility to the teaching staff of the GMC and approved Rs 1 million for its magazine, Rs 1 million for a research project and Rs 200,000 for gold medallists.
Mr Durrani asked for a meeting between the principal of the Gomal Medical College and the Finance Department so that the required requisites could be fulfilled immediately.
He said that there should be no leniency and no shirking of responsibilities. He said that the decisions taken would be for all times and no laxity in the implementation of these decisions would be tolerated.
He said that the finance department was bound to provide resources for meeting all the requirements of the Gomal Medical College so that the college could be recognised by the PMDC once and for all.
