LAHORE, Feb 28: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday granted bail to 50 accused, who had been arrested on charges of aerial firing during Basant festival.

The court also adjourned further proceedings till Thursday (today) on bail applications of another 150 accused of the same charges. The court directed the accused to furnish surety bonds of Rs50,000 against the bails. The accused had been booked under section 7 of the anti-terrorism act.

DEATHS: Justice Najamuz Zaman of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday allowed a petitioner to place on record the details of deaths and injuries during Basant festival in a pending case against Punjab Kite Flying Rules, 2007.

Through counsel Muhammad Azhar, the petitioner, Muhammad & Ahmad law firm, had filed an application seeking permission to annex details of the casualties occurred on Feb 24 and 25 in the pending petition.

The application stated that unfortunately the permission for kite flying by the Punjab government had caused 17 deaths, besides injuries to hundreds others. As a reference, the lawyer enclosed some newspaper clippings.

The court will take up the main petition on Thursday (today).
