LAHORE, Feb 28: Station masters of the Pakistan Railways will reiterate their demands at talks with senior officials of the department at the Railway Headquarters today (Thursday).
“The railways general manager (Operations) contacted us through the Multan divisional superintendent and asked us to meet senior officials before tendering their resignations,” said Chaudhry Muhammad Din, the patron of Station Masters (SMs) and Assistant Station Masters (ASMs) Association.
Representatives of all seven operational divisions of the railways will first talk with senior officials and then decide the future course of action at a meeting, Din told Dawn by phone.
Senior railway officers informed Din that GM (Operations) Asad Saeed would meet Railways Ministry officials in Islamabad on Friday (March 2) to take up the pay raise issue of SMs and ASMs.
All SMs and ASMs did not pass on any information regarding trains arrival and departure in their jurisdiction to the central control office at the PR headquarters for one-and-a-half hours on Feb 21.
The protesting officials had planned to bring the rail traffic to a standstill but decided to register their token protest in the wake of the Samjhota Express fire and tender their resignations on March 1 if their demands were not met, Din added.
