LAHORE, Feb 28: Unidentified robbers strangled a Denmark-settled businessman and his watchman and took away his car and valuables worth millions on Sarwar Road on Wednesday.
Police said Mian Rasheed Ahmed and his watchman, Ghazanfar, were found dead at the former’s residence on 5/6 Allauddin Road.
Police arrived at the crime scene after Aslam, who is an attendant of Rasheed, gave a call to police that Rashid and Ghazanfar were lying dead in the room. He told police That when he came to Rasheed’s house to wash his cars at 4pm, he found that the main door of the house was open and lights were on. He said that he had seen Rasheed and Ghazanfar lying dead under a mattress and a locker was broke open while things in the house were lying scattered.
Police believed that both were killed a day before as foul smell was arising from the bodies, saying the victims were strangled with an electricity wire.
The accused collected cash and jewellery worth over Rs40 million from the house and fled on Rasheed’s Toyota Corolla car (9472-LWB), said police.
Police shifted the bodies to the city morgue for autopsy.
Rasheed, whose two children are settled in the US and one in Denmark, came to Pakistan some time ago and was planning to return Denmark for business.
Rasheed’s daughter, Uzma Naheed, who lives on Jail Road in Shadman, suspected that Ghazanfar had planned a robbery in her father’s house but the robbers also killed him before fleeing.
Police registered a case under section 460 of the Pakistan Penal Code against unidentified people on the complaint of Naheed. Police learnt that Ghazanfar was a proclaimed offender in a murder case in Sukheki police station.
Three women robbers took away cash and jewellery from a house in Samanabad.
Three armed women barged into the house, held the inmates at gunpoint and escaped with Rs100,000 in cash and jewellery.
Two robbers intercepted Usman at Mian Colony in Shahdara and snatched Rs10,000 and a cell phone from him, while two robbers intercepted a citizen at Mohammadi Chowk in Township and deprived him of Rs35,000.
Two armed men intercepted a passer-by at Khwaja Arcade in Muslim Town and deprived him of Rs20,000 and a cell phone.
