KOHAT, Feb 27: The local government has ordered an inquiry into allotment of residential quarters in the Sangerh health centre – meant for class IV employees –to senior medical staff of the KDA medical complex and the Women and Children Hospital .
The action was taken on a written complaint filed in the district complaint cell by Saadat Ali, laboratory technician of the Liaquat Memorial Hospital — now called Women and Children Hospital.
Dawn has learnt that earlier a similar complaint had been filed on Aug 26, 2006, and the medical superintendent of the LMH had issued a directive to illegal occupants to vacate the quarters immediately, otherwise they would be expelled by force. But the matter was hushed up at the intervention of some influential officers and illegal occupants are still residing in the quarters.
Saadat Ali said one of the six quarters was occupied by nurse Fazeelat Sher, wife of Dr Sher Khan, who had given the quarter to her brother, a watchman in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Kohat. The other quarters are occupied by nurse Iram Riaz, assistant male nurse Wisal Khan, matron Nausheen Riaz, and laboratory assistants Hamid and Hashim Khan. In most of the cases, the complainant said, the near relatives of the nurses were residing in the quarters or the quarters had been rented out to other people.
Assistant coordination officer Mudassar Riaz has constituted a committee, headed by district health officer Adil Marjan, to hold an inquiry into the matter and submit a report.
