KARACHI, Feb 26: Following the Sindh governor’s directives to holding separate examination of classes IX and X, a meeting of the Committee of Chairmen (CoC) of secondary boards of education across the province was held on Monday to decide the examination date for class IX.
After a lengthy deliberation on the issue, the meeting decided preparing separate schedule by each of the boards in the province in the light of the Sindh governor’s directives.
The CoC meeting decided the Karachi Board will hold class IX exam from May 15, while the remaining boards across the province will hold the class IX exam along with the class X exam from April 17, officials close to the meeting told Dawn.
Earlier, the meeting was informed that more expenses would be incurred by holding the exam in separate months and it would not be feasible. However, the Karachi Board official differed with other chairmen on their proposal saying that it expected 175,000 students to appear in the class IX exam this year and managing their forms’ submission and issuing admit cards to them would be a difficult task that could not be completed in a short time.
In the light of the Sindh governor’s directives to all the boards to issue their separate schedule, it was finally decided that a uniform date of exam for class IX was not feasible and all boards were free to issue their own schedule. Following this understanding, all the agreed to hold class IX exam along with class X as intermediate exam would start from April in the interior of Sindh.
The Karachi Board officials feel they have enough time to hold the class IX and X exams in separate months. It was decided to hold class IX exam from May 15.
