GUJRANWALA, Feb 24: The district administration has expressed its dissatisfaction over the pace of construction work on watercourses and demanded completion of the same by April as the Punjab government has released Rs25 million for the purpose.

At a meeting held here on Saturday, District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat was told that as many as 11 watercourses were to be bricklined within a stipulated time, but construction work has not been started there. Similarly in other areas only six watercourses had been completed.

The meeting expressed resentment over performance of the respective department and demanded completion of work by April.

The DCO pointed out that the Punjab government had allocated Rs1.5 million for cash prizes for supervisors who would complete work at the earliest.

He said 42 supervisors had been inducted in the district to ensure in-time completion of watercourses.

The district officer (revenue) and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.

TRAUMA CENTRE: District nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha on Saturday laid down the foundation stone of trauma centre’s upper storey at DHQ hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the nazim said Rs16 million would be spent on construction work. He said three operation theatres would be built on first floor.

The nazim said a trauma centre costing Rs20 million had already been completed at the ground floor.

EDO (health) Dr Nisar Cheema, DHQ hospital medical superintendent Dr Javed Akhtar and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
