GUJAR KHAN, Feb 24: District Police Officer Saud Aziz Saturday evening ordered the released of a blind man, who was put behind bars by the Gujar Khan police after registration of a false case.
Sohail Imran told Dawn in the morning that his brother had lodged a complaint against a Patwari, Mr Nasir, for taking bribe. On February 3, the accused was sentenced to jail for one year by an anti-corruption court.
Mr Imran said since the court’s decision, he and his family was under pressure to reconcile with the convict. But when the demand was rejected, Patwaris in the entire tehsil turned against them.
According to Mr Imran, last Friday he was present outside the Gujar Khan town office when a number of Patwaris allegedly beat him with clubs and later handed him over to the local police.
When this reporter contacted the DPO for his comments, he sought some time to investigate the case.
Saud Aziz interviewed Imran at the lockup and after being convinced of his innocence, ordered his release.
