CHITRAL, Feb 24: The Pakistan People’s Party has extended its support to the professional development centre (PDC) being constructed by the Aga Khan University in Chitral.

The Chitral chapter of the party demanded that the government should provide protection and security to the university.

Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, PPP leader Mohammad Hakeem Khan advocate and Tehsil Nazim Sartaj Ahmed Khan said that the PDC was contributing to the promotion of quality education in Chitral for four years and opposition to it by religious quarters was illogical.

They said that the NGOs had played a vital role in the development of Chitral, but some elements were creating hurdles and impeding execution of projects aimed at reducing the poverty.

They said that more than 70 per cent of the Chitralis were followers of the PPP and they wanted progress and prosperity in the area.

They criticised the provincial and central governments for their utter failure to protect the life and property of people and checking the soaring prices of essential commodities.

They said that in the present situation, only Benazir Bhutto could drive the nation out of difficulties.
