Maqsood takes lead in amateurs’ golf

RAWALPINDI, Feb 23: Maqsood Waraich of Rawalpindi gained one-stroke lead in the amateurs’ event of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Gold Medal Open golf championship at the Rawalpindi Golf Club on Friday.

In the first round of the amateurs’ event, Maqsood finished with a first-round net card of 68, taking a one-stroke lead over Ejaz Hussain Qureshi with Yasir Khokhar of PAF trailing one stroke further behind.

In the gross section of the same event, M. Safdar Khan of Gujranwala and Ejaz Hussain Qureshi emerged as first round leaders with scores of 76 each.

The amateurs’ and professionals’ events will conclude on Sunday after play over 54 holes (three-rounds) each.

Meanwhile, subsidiary and senior professionals’ events concluded on Friday after play over two-rounds (36 holes) each.

Lt Col Rizwan Munir of Rawalpindi won the gross section of the subsidiary event with total score of 175 while Dr Taimur Pervaiz triumphed in the net section with a tally of 137.

A prize money of Rs500,000 has been earmarked for the professionals and senior professionals categories.—APP
