HYDERABAD, Feb 23: Unit-I of the Jamshoro Thermal Powerhouse, with an installed capacity of 250 megawatts, was closed following a fire incident occurred in its auxiliary circuit breaker on Friday. No one was reported hurt.
“The incident occurred at around 4.18 pm in the auxiliary circuit breaker of our unit-I which had to be closed for safety purposes. Its inspection will be carried out and in next two days it will again be made operational, said an official source. The Resident Engineer (Maintenance) Abdul Majeed Khokhar and other staff was inspecting the unit.
The unit-II, with an installed capacity of 250 megawatts, is already lying closed since December 4 for overhauling purposes which is being carried out by Russian expert.
A fire broke out in the unit last year which was already in its shut down stage.
The Wapda authorities called Russian experts as its overhauling was already due in February this year. The authorities approved its overhauling in January.
“There was a flashover in the circuit breaker which caused the fire. Things are normal and it would take only two days for repair”, sources said.
The installed capacity of unit-III and IV are 250 megawatts each but currently they are generating around 170 and 180 megawatts, respectively.
