GUJRANWALA, Feb 23: Robbers struck thrice in and around the city on Friday.

Four outlaws entered the house of industrialist Ahmad Dar in Wapda Town. They locked the family in a room and took away Rs150,000 in cash and 100 tolas of gold jewellery worth around Rs1.4 million.

Two motorcyclists intercepted trader Tayyab at the door of his house in Jalil Town and snatched Rs200,000 in cash and a mobile phone from him.

Two gunmen deprived Rana Aslam of his car (LZU-844).

GANG NABBED: The district police claimed to have arrested nine members of a gang, including a woman, who struck at about six wedding homes and killed two people when they resisted.

This was stated by DIG (operations) Khadim Husain Bhatti at a press conference here on Friday.

Accused Riaz alias Chaba, Ghulam Murtaza, Imran, Shahzad, Akbar alias Ghariba, Akram Arain, Shahbaz, Abid and Ghazala Bibi struck in Kotly Mughlan, Dera Bajwa, Mandiala Warriach, Amratpura, Gondlanwala and Kamoki. All their strikes were successful and they deprived the guests and wedding homes not only of valuables but also of their happiness and joys, the DIG added.

He said during investigations, the accused confessed to killing Faiz Ahmad and his son Jafar in June 2005 and injuring a woman.

The DIG said some gang members snatched a taxi (FDR-5457) and sold it in Peshawar.

He said 10 members were still at large and police were hunting them.

The DIG claimed that one Kalashnikov, pump action, six pistols, 28 mobile phones, Rs50,000 in cash and other valuables have been recovered from their possession.

Some members of affected families were also present at the press conference.
