TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 22: Human Rights Commission of Pakistan district core group coordinator Tariq Mahmood has expressed his concern over inordinate delay in functioning of a new district jail here.

In a press statement on Thursday, he said the jail had been completed for 1,000 inmates about six months ago after a delay of four years, but prisoners of Toba Tek Singh district were still being sent to Jhang jail. As a result of which their relatives were facing a great a deal of inconvenience, he said.

Mr Mehmood said: “It is strange that the jail has not been made functional despite the fact that jail staff has already been posted and they are being paid salaries.

POLICE EMPLOYEES: As many as 1,227 police employees will be affected in the wake of the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi regarding transfer of policemen, who are serving in their own native districts, to other districts.

A source told this correspondent that the affected employees included six inspectors, 48 sub-inspectors and 90 ASIs.

He said more than 1,000 police constables and head constables would also be transferred.

BAITUL MAAL: Punjab Baitul Maal district committee chairman Chaudhry Nasir Iqbal said on Thursday that the committee members who did not attend the last two meetings had been issued show cause notices.

He said a number of cases were pending because of their absence. Mr Iqbal said the next meeting of the committee would be held on March 7.
