RAWALPINDI, Feb 16: The city district government would set up a bio gas plant at the landfill site at Losar, but its cost would be borne by private sector, City District Nazim Raja Javed Akhlas said here on Friday.

He was speaking at a briefing on the project by Potohar Environmental Services, Rawalpindi and Concept Industrial Management Company UK.

The briefing was held in DCO office and the UK company was represented by Mr Robert and Dirk Daphenberg. DCO Irfan Elahi, EDO Municipal Services Iftikhar Ali Shehwani, District Officer Solid Waste Management Dr Mazhar Azeem and nazim Union Council Bagga Bhattian Sheikh Mohammad Wasim were also present on the occasion.

Raja Javed said the district government would get 50 per cent profit generated by the project that would increase the income generating sources of the district government and the project would also open the employment opportunities for the local.

He said various private companies are ready to invest in the project, adding the moment the district government receives appropriate offer from any company, it would be sent to the Punjab government for approval. The district nazim said that district government would give land for the project at Losar (Rawat) and also assist in taking the solid waste of the city to the site.
