JACOBABAD, Feb 15: Activists of the Citizen Action Committee took out a procession here on Thursday to protest against shortage of drinking water in the city.

Led by the president of the committee, Mohammad Akram Abro, Dr A. G. Ansari of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) and Mohammad Azeem Khoso of the Tehrik-i-Insaf, the procession emerged from outside the office of the committee.

After marching on different roads, the protesters reached outside the press club where they staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike. Carrying placards, they demanded proper supply of drinking water.

The speakers -- including Mr Abro, Dr Ansari, Mr Khoso, Imdad Talani, Sher Zaman Khoso, Shahid Mughal and others -- said that due to shortage of potable water, the residents were facing immense problems for a week. They said that traders were selling water at high rates.

Mr Abro told journalists that he had contacted the municipal administration which said that the shortage was due to faults in pumping motors.

The protesters threatened with a shutter-down strike if water supply was not restored in 24 hours.
