PESHAWAR, Feb 15: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday directed the deputy attorney-general to trace the whereabouts of the head of a religious education institute, allegedly picked up by intelligence officials a month back.
A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Tariq Pervez Khan and Justice Qaim Jan Khan, issued the directive in a habeas corpus petition filed by Ms Ayesha, wife of the detainee, Qari Subhanullah, who was running the Iqra Rozatul Atfal, an institution giving religious education. The court asked Deputy Attorney-General Salahuddin Khan to contact the intelligence agencies and furnish information on the detainee’s whereabouts.
Ms Ayesha told the court that her husband was picked up by the officials of an intelligence agency, accompanied by local police, from their residence at Dura Road within the jurisdictions of Gulbahar police at night on January 14.
Appearing before the court, the Gulbahar police SHO denied raiding Qari Subhanullah’s residence and said he had no clue to his whereabouts.
