No let-up in robberies

LAHORE, Feb 12: Robbers continued strikes on Monday and took away cash and valuables worth millions of rupees from different parts of the city.

One robber entered a house adjacent to Zafar General Store in Nishat Colony in South Cantonment, held the family at gunpoint, collected Rs100,000 in cash and jewellery worth more than Rs800,000 and escape with the booty.

However, the cantonment SP claimed that the owner suffered a loss of around Rs300,000.

Four robbers barged into Sohail’s house in Makhanpura in Shadbagh, held the family at gunpoint and started collecting valuables.

In the meantime, one of the family members dialed police emergency number and the police reached the spot after 20 minutes. The robbers took valuables worth around Rs50,000.

However, the police claimed that they rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and the robbers escaped empty handed.

Two robbers intercepted Kashif Sabir and his family on Jinnah Road in the Sattokala area by blocking the road. They dragged all four members riding the car at gunpoint, snatched Rs5,000 in cash, three cell phones, one wireless set and 24 tolas of gold ornaments and drove away with Kashif’s car (LRD-4911).

Four gunmen stormed into an iron godown in Data Nagar in the Badami Bagh area and took away Rs25,000 and two cell phones.

Two robbers intercepted Salim in front of Ganga Ram Hospital and snatched Rs40,000 in cash and his cell phone while as many robbers intercepted a man on the back of Hafeez Centre in Gulberg and deprived him of Rs3,000 in cash and a cell phone.

Two outlaws deprived a woman of four gold bangles at gunpoint in South Cantonment while four robbers intercepted Ahmed in the Faisal Town area and escaped with Rs3,200 in cash and a cell phone.

Two robbers intercepted Iqbal near new bridge in Mughalpura and snatched cash in thousands, a cell phone and his motorcycle (LOZ-8636) at gunpoint.

Three people were deprived of cell phones in Misrishah, Faisal Town and Johar Town areas.

GANG BUSTED: Hanjarwal and Gujjarpura police claimed on Monday to have arrested eight members of two gangs and recovered stolen valuables besides illegal weapons from their possession.

The accused confessed to 30 robberies.

Run Over: A youth was killed in a hit-and-run accident in the Shafeeqabad area on Monday.

Police said Muhammad Faisal, 23, a resident of Sheikhupura, was walking along Bund Road when a route 19 bus ran him over near Bhati Chowk. He died on the spot.

A case was registered against the absconding driver.
