JACOBABAD, Feb 12: An ongoing feud between Mangi and Dasti tribes was settled at a meeting held in the Circuit House here on Monday.

The meeting was held under Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, chairman of the Sindh National Front.

The feud had been going on for the past three years and claimed the lives of at least eight people. Several others had been wounded.

Other heads of tribes, including Sardar Yar Mohammad Khan Jamali, Rustam Khan Jamali, Amir Bux Bhutto, Mohammad Akram Abro, Sardar Faqir Mohammad Mangi, Rais Mohammad Panah Bhayo, district nazim of Jaffarabad, Khan Mohammad Jamali also attended the meeting.

Jirga decided that Rs300,000 would be paid as compensation for every murdered man while Rs250,000 would be paid to the injured people. A combined fine amounting to Rs3.15 million was imposed on both the warring tribes, of which the Mangis would pay Rs1.55 million to the Dastis in two instalments. First instalment amounting to Rs500,000 was to be paid on March 20 while the rest of the amount would be paid by June 1.

Meanwhile, the Dastis would pay compensation money to the Mangis in the same manner on same dates.

The meeting decided that if any side violated the agreement, it would be liable to pay Rs2 million.
