SHIKARPUR, Feb 11: Activists of Shehri Ittehad staged a peace rally in Chak town on Sunday demanding the government should take effective measures to put an end to tribal feuds in the district.

The rally was led by Haroon Channa, Ghulam Qadir Mahar, Asadullah Bhayo, Nandlal Panjwani and notables of the town and its adjoining localities.

The rally marched from the town all the way to Sukkur on foot staging demonstrations at Chak, Bhirkan village, Jahan Khan, Dreha and Abad before reaching the Sukkur press club to record their protest against tribal feuds and lawlessness in the district.

The participants demanded that the Sindh chief minister, home minister, IG of Sindh police and RPO of Sukkur should take immediate action to settle the bloody running tribal feuds.

Shikarpur District Nazim Mohammad Arif Mahar assured people at the inauguration ceremony for a newly-constructed main gate at the police headquarters that the district government would pay special attention towards the settlement of tribal disputes.

Mr Mahar claimed that professional criminals who were sheltered by area influentials were to blame for law and order problem. They committee crimes in the name of tribal disputes, he said.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Social Forum organised a lecture at the local press club on the impact of tribal disputes. Zahid Noon, Iqbal Detho, Naseem Bukhari, Mir Sobdar Saeed, Raheem Bux Jamali and Sardar Ali Sanjrani spoke at the programme and demanded early settlement of tribal disputes in the province.
