Constable killed in cross-fire

LAHORE, Feb 10: Three people allegedly shot dead a Muhafiz force official in a crossfire in the Harbanspura area on Saturday.

Sources said police managed to arrest one of the killers after a chase. But the Mughalpura SP denied having made any arrests.

The police said four Muhafiz force officials —- Nadeem Anwar, Ghulam Husain, Chishti and Javed —- were on routine patrol in Canal Bank Society. They said they came under fire by occupants of a rickshaw when they tried to stop it. The policemen also fired at the rickshaw while chasing it. The crossfire left constable Nadeem dead.

The rickshaw occupants along with the driver left the three-wheeler and escaped into streets in Amir Town.

The alleged killers managed to escape. However, it was learnt that the police had arrested one of the killers.

When contacted, Mughalpura SP Ahsan Younis denied having made any arrests.

He said the killers might have been robbers.

Constable Nadeem, was a resident of Lakhuder, Lahore, and was unmarried.

The police have registered a case against the killers and seized auto rickshaw.

ROBBERIES: Four robbers barged into Edhi employee Yasoobul Hassan’s house in Zeenat Block in Iqbal Town in early hours of Saturday, held up inmates at gunpoint and made off with Rs600,000 in cash and 50 tola gold.

Police have registered a case.

GANG: Baghbanpura, Harbanspura and Iqbal Town police claimed on Saturday to have arrested six members of three alleged gangs of dacoits and recovered valuables and illegal weapons from their possession.

They confessed to 27 crimes of dacoity and robbery.
