3 murdered in separate incidents

RAWALPINDI, Feb 5: Three persons were murdered in two separate incidents in Kahuta and Sadiqabad areas on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, two persons were shot dead by three of their relatives over a domestic dispute.

Ijaz Hussain and Mohammad Danish were going home when the accused intercepted them and opened fire, killing them on the spot. The alleged killers were identified as Mohammad Shaukat, Mohammad Ali and their father Mohammad Izram.

In another incident, a man was murdered in Sadiqabad area on Sunday.

According to the police, Hasnat Aslam was travelling in his car when he found the road blocked by a dumper. He got out of his car and started arguing with dumper’s driver, Amir Sagheer Satti. During the course of the argument, the infuriated Amir hit Hasnat on his head with an iron rod, causing his death.

EXPATRIATE SWINDLED: An expatriate was robbed of Rs25,000 by two swindlers near Jinnah Park shortly after arriving in Rawalpindi in the early hours of Monday, a relative of the victim said.

Ghazanfar Mehmood, who had arrived from Abu Dhabi, was received by his two brothers at Islamabad International Airport early Monday morning. As they were heading home in their car, they were intercepted by two persons travelling in a black vehicle near Jinnah Park.

Javaid Iqbal, a relative of the robbery victim, told Dawn that one of the occupants got out and showed a card to Ghazanfar, introducing himself as a security official.

“He told Ghazanfar that he appeared to be a suspected Al- Qaeda member. On seeing the situation, Ghazanfar’s brother Safdar, who is an armyman and was travelling with him, got out of his car and tried to talk to the swindler but he was rebuked.

“They then conducted body search of Ghazanfar, snatched his purse that contained cash and sped away,” Javaid Iqbal said. The victims made hue and cry to attract the security personnel patrolling nearby, but they failed to attract their attention.

Meanwhile, three robberies were committed and four vehicles were taken away by thieves from different parts of Rawalpindi on Sunday, police said.

Nasir Mehmood told R.A. Bazaar police that three robbers entered his shop and snatched Rs26,000 and two mobile phones from him at gunpoint.

Hameed Akhtar lodged an FIR with Sadiqabad police, saying that three robbers entered his shop and held him at gunpoint. They then escaped with Rs40,000 cash and calling cards.

Nazia Javaid told Civil Lines police that some robbers deprived her off gold ornaments and cash.
