LAHORE, Feb 1: The LHC registrar office on Thursday objected to a constitutional petition challenging Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2006, saying an identical matter was pending before the apex court.
The office has returned the petition to the petitioner’s counsel. The petitioner had also sought contempt of court proceedings against the authorities for wilfully violating the Supreme Court orders by promulgating the ordinance.
The ordinance was challenged by Mohammad & Ahmad Law Company through advocate Muhammad Azhar, who had submitted that the promulgation of the ordinance by Punjab governor was illegal and un-Islamic.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying (amendment) Ordinance 2007 was against the public interest and was in complete derogation of the directions and ban imposed by the apex court.
