ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said on Wednesday that the government was determined to continuing the war on terrorism, expose the elements -- whether local or foreign -- involved in the latest terrorist acts and give them exemplary punishment.

He was presiding over a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House which reviewed the law and order situation in the country and the progress made in investigations into the latest incidents of terrorism that have taken place in the NWFP.

The meeting was informed that except for the NWFP, where a serious law and order situation prevailed, Muharram was being observed peacefully throughout the country.

The prime minister paid tribute to the officials who had laid down their lives while discharging their duty.

He said such incidents would strengthen the resolve of the government to continue its relentless struggle against the perpetrators of terrorism and extremism. The government, he said, would redouble its efforts with the help of the people to frustrate the designs of subversive and terrorist elements.

According to a handout, the prime minister, who had been in touch with the four chief ministers, again spoke to them by telephone on Wednesday.

They assured the prime minister that they had taken stringent measures to prevent the recurrence of events prejudicial to the security and law and order situation in their provinces.
