Probe into death of linemen

GUJRANWALA, Jan 29: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on Monday started an inquiry into electrocution of two linemen of Kharian subdivision No 2. The inquiry officers recorded the statements of several officials of the company including suspended SDO Malik Amin and feeder in charge line superintendent Muhammad Riaz and summoned more witnesses on Wednesday.

Linemen Muhammad Anwar and Rashid Ahmad were working on a pole in Damian village without taking permission from grid station during load shedding.

When grid station officials restored the power supply without knowing that two linemen were on line, they were electrocuted.

The Gepco chief executive suspended the SDO concerned and feeder in charge from service and issued the show cause notice to XEN Jamshed Butt.

ROBBER: A man was shot dead by robbers on resisting in Dhulley here on Monday.

Salahuddin, 30, was on his way home from market when three robbers intercepted him. They snatched cash and other valuables and opened fire on him when he put up resistance. He died on the spot.

Police have registered a case.
