Nine booked in wedding firing case

GUJRANWALA, Jan 29: As many as nine people, including three constables, were booked on Monday on charges of aerial firing and blocking GT Road at the marriage ceremony of a police inspector.

Reports said the marriage party of inspector Imran Abbas reached the city from Hafizabad by a caravan of 1,500 vehicles some two weeks ago. Some guests resorted to aerial firing and blocked GT Road for an hour.

On receiving information, DIG (operation) Khalim Husain appointed headquarters SP Abdul Qayyum as inquiry officer.

The inquiry report found three constables Nasir Mehmood, Ashfaq Ahmed and Rafaqat Mehmood guilty who were suspended from service and served dismissal notices. Six guests were also booked under Sections 337, 148 and 149 of the PPC.

The DIG (operation) issued show-cause notice to inspector Imran Abbas Chadarh.
