KARACHI, Jan 27: The mother of a young man, who had gone disappeared from Balochistan 18 months ago, on Saturday urged the authorities to release her son and give the family a chance to live in peace.

Hajiani Shamsatoon, a resident of Gwadar, continued her protest outside the Karachi Press Club on the 156th consecutive day along with her two grandsons demanding release of their father Guhram Saleh.

She told the media that her son had nothing to do with any political activity and was just an ordinary taxi driver and sole bread-earner of the family.

“The officials of some sensitive agencies intercepted him at Talaar check-post while Guhram was on his way to Mund from Gwadar on August 8, 2004 and picked him up despite the fact that he has nothing to do with any political activity,” Ms Shamsatoon said.

She said the authorities should officially level the charges if Mr Saleh was involved in any crime and produce him before a court of law.

“Let the courts decide if he is guilty of any crime but please rid me and his children of the continued mental torture of which we are going through for the last 18 months,” she said.

She said she would continue her hunger strike until her son’s whereabouts were made known to the family. She also appealed to the human rights groups to play their role in recovery of her son.
