KARACHI: Lawyers worried over violence

Published January 28, 2007

KARACHI, Jan 27: The Sindh Bar Council’s Human Rights Committee on Saturday condemned growing incidents of violence against lawyers, pointing out that as many as 30 lawyers had been killed and more than 100 injured in such incidents over the previous year.

It also deplored the forced disappearances of many people and called for their early recovery.

The council, referring to the $350 million loan obtained from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for reforms in judiciary, stressed that the government must make a proper use of the funds.—PPI
