MIRPURKHAS, Jan 25: Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Jehangir Mirza has said that police were making all out efforts to recover the kidnapped family members of Mannu Bheel keeping in view the directive of the apex court.

He said that government had also announced a Rs5 million reward for information leading to recovery of missing family members of Mannu Bheel.

He was speaking at a press conference here on Thursday after chairing a high-level meeting of police officers.

Referring to security arrangements during Muharram, he said that strength of police personnel had been increased in the province besides personnel from police training centres have also been deployed in towns and cities to avert any untoward incident.

He added that if needed, rangers would be called in to maintain law and order during Muharram.

To a question, he said that police had conducted raids throughout the province to recover Ms Matal Lashari of Mirpurkhas and hoped that she will be located soon.

Responding to the complaint of journalists regarding threats of dire consequences by some influential people, the PPO assured them that police would take serious notice and provide full protection to them to perform their professional duties and such journalists can also contact him at Karachi.

He said that recommendations had been furnished to government for special measures to resolve the grievances of police.

He stressed the need for wireless sets, vehicles, equipment, police jawans, laboratories etc. to enable police to maintain law and order and face criminals possessing sophisticated weapons and communication system.

Earlier, the PPO chaired a high-level meeting which was attended by regional police officer Hyderabad, Fayaz Ahmed Khan and the DIG Mirpurkhas.
