LAHORE, Jan 21: Islampura police on Sunday freed a kidnapped woman, arrested her captor and seized ransom money and illegal weapons from him after a brief shootout. Two other captors, however, fled.
A handout issued by police stated Ali Ahmad from Sanda and his relative, Sadia Bibi, were intercepted by three armed men in police uniform at 10:30pm near Saggian Bridge.
“They thrashed me and Sadia and demanded Rs100,000 for Sadia’s release,” Ali said, adding that the kidnappers finally agreed to release her for Rs20,000 and asked him to arrange the money.
Ali went to his house, took money and informed his friend Irfan about the situation who called 15 for help.
Islampura police reached the crime scene by a tractor-trolley. Seeing police, the captors fired at them.
During the shootout, accused Izhar was injured and arrested, while his two accomplices, Adnan from Babu Sabu and Abid from Sharaqpur, fled. The injured was taken to Mayo Hospital. —Reporter
