MANDI BAHAUDDIN, Jan 21: A district office-bearer of the Pakistan Medical Association was reportedly kidnapped for ransom on Saturday.
Reports said PMA district senior vice-president Dr Akhtar Javed Tabassam, a child specialist, was returning to Mandi Bahauddin from Lahore when he was kidnapped near Gujrat.
The kidnappers have reportedly demanded Rs10 million for his release from the doctor’s family. The outlaws were using Dr Tabassum’s cell phone.
It is the second incident of this nature occurring in the area during the last two months. Earlier, another PMA member, Dr Habibur Rehman, had to pay Rs1.7 million ransom for the release of his 14-month-old daughter.
