TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 19: Faisalabad AIG Talat Mahmood Tariq has said that there is no need to call army or Rangers to control law and order situation in Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Faisalabad districts in Muharram.
He was addressing a press conference here on Friday after attending a meeting of police officers in the DPO office.
He said a special police team had been formed to monitor the activities of proclaimed offenders who found good opportunity to commit crimes in Muharram as they knew that most of the police personnel were posted to guard processions and majalis.
The AIG claimed that for the last two decades no untoward incident took place all over the district in Muharram and hoped that processions would pass peacefully during coming Muharram also.
However, district nazim has power to call the army or Rangers if felt the need any time, he added.
DPO Raja Munawar Husain, SP (investigation) Babar Bajra and DSPs Aslam Shankar and Malik Latif were also present.
Earlier, AIG Tariq met district and sessions judge Suhaib Roomi and district nazim Abdul Sattar in the DPO office and discussed with them prevailing law and order situation and crime rate in the district.
KILLED: A lawyer was killed and another injured seriously in a car crash near Chaudhry Sugar Mills on the Toba-Faisalabad Road on Thursday night.
Asif Hameed Kiani and Rana Fida Husain along their wives were on their way to Toba Tek Singh from Faisalabad. The driver could not see a tractor-trolley loaded with sugarcane as a result of which the car rammed into the trolley. Asif was killed on the spot while Fida and their wives were admitted to hospital from where they were referred to Faisalabad in critical condition.
Meanwhile, citizens, lawyers, judges and parliamentarians attended funeral prayers. Qul will be held on Saturday at 9am in Sarhand Colony.
