QUETTA, Jan 13: The outgoing Inspector General of Police, Balochistan, Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqub, on Saturday said that police had successfully traced out all cases of sectarianism, terrorism and subversive activities in the province that created a sense of insecurity among the people.

He was addressing a function held here at the police headquarters to bid him farewell and welcome the new Balochistan IGP Tariq Masood Khosa.

He praised the performance of the Balochistan police and said that soon it would emerge as a model police force.

"Only the police, and not any other force or agency, had traced out the gangs involved in sectarian terrorism and subversive activities in Quetta and elsewhere in Balochistan," Chaudhry Yaqub said.

He said that credit for its outstanding performance went to low-ranking police officers and other staff who played an important role in curbing anti-social activities.

He said: “Police provided information about the ‘Ferari camps’ and the elements involved in running them,” he said.

Chaudhry Yaqub, who would take over his new assignment in the inspection team of the prime minister, said that after the death of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, police had restricted the angry mob from marching up to certain areas.

He further said that the situation had normalised within a week because of the positive approach of the police force.

He said a new force was being raised that would be known as the Balochistan Constabulary, adding that about 10,000 people would be recruited.

Referring to the merger of the Levies Force into police, he said that the process was progressing smoothly and 16 districts of the province had been declared as police areas.

The newly-appointed Inspector General of Police in Balochistan Tariq Masood Kohsa and DIG (Headquarters) Fakharuddin also spoke.
