PESHAWAR, Jan 12: Peshawar district and sessions judge Syed Mussadiq Hussain Gillani on Friday sentenced a person to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs50,000 for his involvement in drug trafficking.

The judge observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Samar Gul.

The court acquitted two other co-accused, Fakhre Alam and Ayaz Mohammad, of charges owing to lack of evidence.

The accused were arrested by the local police on Oct 25 last year.

The police had recovered 325kg charas from their car.

The police claimed that Samar Gul, a resident of Bara (Khyber Agency), was smuggling the contraband to Punjab.

They were charged under section 9(c) of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act.

District public prosecutor Sikander Sahibzada argued that the accused were caught red-handed while smuggling the contraband.
