KARACHI, Jan 11: An exhibition of art and photography, ‘Art for Charity’ will open at the Mohatta Palace on Monday to raise funds for relief work for the victims of the earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 8, 2005.

The artists having global recognition for their work in various fields of art from across the world would put their artworks on display in the exhibition that will continue till January 20 and all the sale proceeds would go towards the relief fund for the earthquake victims.

This high-profile activity is part of the national relief effort to provide assistance to the victims and to help in their efforts to bring their lives to normalcy. H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, daughter of H.H Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has been invited to exhibit her works of photography in the exhibition.

The photography of H.H Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was unveiled in public for the first time at the Burj Al Arab – Dubai in November 2005. Her work depicts a mature and artistic eye, as well as a sense of humour and a great understanding and appreciation of mother nature. Amazingly, this young talented photographer delighted visitors who witnessed her breathtaking collection of work at the exhibition at the Burj Al Arab. She continues to astonish the public with her unusual talent in this field.

Also participating in the exhibition is Uschi Schmitt-Ladanyi. Ms Ladanyi was born in Germany – Bavaria and graduated from Munich U5 Academy in art, graphic design and photography.

In her spare time, she travels extensively to exotic countries including China, India, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE etc. and enjoys capturing the drama of her ‘images of the moment’.

She combines modern technology from her photographic skills with her artist background. She is proficient in both fields and applies her knowledge and background academically with modern mediums of art expression to produce for the demands of various commissions – as varied as hoteliers, designers and private collectors.

The exhibition will also display bronze sculptures by the German artist Karen LaKar. Ms Lakar has studied in Berlin and is working in Munich. She specialises in bronze and aluminum sculptures.

The sculptures are inspired by forms of nature like plants and creatures and uniformed into abstract and natural shapes. Her experience in working with such elementary materials gives an understanding of her sensitivity to Mother Earth.

Her work is an expression of her inner self through these forms, tones and colours in 3-dimentional creations. Her inspiration is enlarged spontaneity. Her client list ranges from commissions in the private and public sector, hotels and industrialists.

According to organisers, the there will be 49 photographs would be displayed at the exhibition.
