LAHORE, Jan 9: Three anti-terrorism courts (ATC) on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a person and life imprisonment to five others in separate cases on murder and kidnapping charges.

Farooq of Pattoki Sadar was awarded death sentence and his accomplice, Faqir Mohammad, life imprisonment.

The convicts some one and a half years ago had murdered Faqir Husain over a property dispute. The court also directed the convicts to pay Rs100,000 each to the deceased’s family as compensation.

Another ATC awarded life term to Ashiq and Javed, who last year had kidnapped Ashraf and Rahmat, and set them free after receiving a Rs1.5 million ransom in Manawan.

Bilal and Rashid Butt of Lohari were also awarded life imprisonment. They had exchanged fire, killing a passerby Imran some eight months ago.
