ISLAMABAD, Jan 6: A 22-year-old man hanged himself in response to the execution of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein in the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi police on Saturday.

The police said Mohammad Usman Haider, son of an ex-employee of the CDA, had become extremely depressed after watching Saddam’s execution on television.

Haider, who had also been a student of a madressah and had learnt the Holy Quran by heart, left his house for Aabpara market on Saturday and committed suicide after returning home.

The police confirmed the incident and said the man had hanged himself with a waistband tied to the ceiling of a bathroom.

DSP Industrial Area Jameel Hashmi said Haider had committed suicide over Saddam’s execution.

ROBBERIES: Two robberies were committed in different parts of Rawalpindi during the last 24 hours, police said.

Saqib Hussain complained to the Sadiqabad police that two unidentified men entered his photo studio and held him at gunpoint.

They tied him with a rope and snatched Rs9,000 and calling cards and escaped.

In another incident, two armed robbers burst into a house in Gangmandi and looted cash and gold ornaments.
