Karzai to visit Pakistan
KABUL, Jan 5: Afghan President Hamid Karzai will visit Pakistan in February in an effort to bridge the growing gap between the two countries. Mr Karzai will explore ways to reduce tension and enhance Afghanistan’s security during the visit, said official sources on Friday.
They said Mr Karzai spoke to Prime Minister Aziz using the open language at their recent joint press conference in Kabul.
“Our relations have recently seen a lack of confidence,” said Mr Karzai in his opening remarks at the news conference.
The Afghan president acknowledged that the relations between the two neighbours have hit a low point and said they would try to bridge the growing gap in coming months.
Opposing the Pakistan’s move of mining and fencing its border with Afghanistan, he said it would “divide the two nations” and “will not prevent terrorism”.—Online
