LAHORE, Jan 4: Five people including two women were murdered in the city in three incidents on Thursday. In the first incident a security guard shot dead his colleague and a woman after seeing them in objectionable condition in Civil Lines area in wee hours of Thursday.
Police said Ashraf and Younas were security guards at a car showroom on Queens Road. Ashraf had developed relations with a married woman, Shahnaz, 26, of Township, who used to visit Ashraf at the showroom.
In the meantime, Shahnaz also established relations with Younas, a resident of Mochipura, Faisal Town.
On late Wednesday night, Shahnaz, came to see Younas in the absence of Ashraf. Suddenly, Ashraf turned up there, and got infuriated on seeing the two in compromising state. He opened fire on them, killing the both on the spot. The accused managed to escape after committing the crime.
Later, the police arrested Ashraf along with his gun, and registered a case against him.
The bodies were sent to the city morgue for autopsy.
In another incident, a couple was found strangulated at their rented room in Nishtar Colony area on Thursday.
Kot Lakhpat division SP Sajjad Hussain Manj told Dawn that the Abdul Rasheed and his wife Shamim, of Sahiwal, were found strangulated in their rented room at a shoe-making unit in Venus Housing Scheme. The couple seemed to be asleep when murdered. However, their six-year-old child remained unhurt.
Rasheed, a watchman at the shoe-unit owned by Anwar, had already survived a life attempt seven months ago when Nadeem and Nasir Zaheer, Rasheed’s former colleagues, had shot at and injured him following allegations that Rasheed used to steal shoes from the unit.
The double murder was disclosed by Rasheed’s sister Hameedan Bibi who turned up at his residence to see his brother at around 3pm.
He said Anwar, owner of the shoe-factory, informed police that he last saw the couple on Wednesday after-noon when he gave them Rs200 Eid.
A case was registered against Nasir Zaheer, Nadeem, Imran, Rafique and Zaheer on the complaint of Khaliq, Rasheed’s nephew.
In the third incident, a young man was gunned down by his three paternal uncles over ancestral property dispute in Akbari Gate area on late Wednesday.
Police said Nawaz Butt, 25, was standing at the his doorstep along with his friend Ashraf Ali when his uncles Niaz alias Bhola, Saeedi and Achi had heated arguments with him. As a result, Niaz and his brothers opened fire on them, injuring the both critically.
They were rushed to the Mayo Hospital where Nawaz succumbed to his injuries on early Thursday.
KILLED: Two people were crushed to death under the wheels of trains in separate incidents in the city on Thursday.
Police said Arshad Ali alias Achu, 35, a resident of Alnoor Town, Walton Road, was crossing the railway tracks when he was ran over by the train.
Meanwhile, an unidentified man died when he was run over by a train while crossing the railway line near Eik-Morya bridge in Misri Shah area.
BODY FOUND: Body of an unidentified man was found in Batapura area on Thursday. Police said the person might have died of cold.
