KARACHI, Dec 28: Traffic jams at major city intersections, including Liaquatabad, Benaras Chowk, Sohrab Goth and Water Pump, have increased as Eidul Azha draws closer.
Long queues were witnessed at these places and a vehicle took 15-20 minutes to pass through these intersections.
The worse traffic jam was at Liaquatabad from the Dakkhana stop to the Liaquatabad flyover. It was prompted by shoppers, rickshaw and taxi drivers as they wrongly parked their vehicles.
Although the city government undertook immediate repairs and opened a number of alternate routes at the Sohrab
Goth intersection, where construction of a flyover and an underpass is in in full swing, the haste by drivers of vehicles carrying sacrificial animals often results in bumper to bumper jam.
The presence of heavy police contingents after security was beefed up on the orders of the IG of Sindh and increased number of traffic policemen, the city traffic remained chaotic on Thursday.
The traffic jam delayed the arrival of passengers at railway stations and some passengers managed to reach and board the train just in time.—APP
