PESHAWAR, Dec 23: The Executive District Officer for Health, Dr Mausam Khan, has said that adequate use of iodine could prevent permanent disabilities in children.
He was addressing a ceremony to promote use of iodine at a School for Deaf and Blind Children Gulbahar, Peshawar.
Principal of the school Ahmad Salim, President of Salt Processors Association Taj Mohammad and Project Coordinator Mohammad Kashif were also present.
A declamation contest was held among the special children on the occasion. It was participated in by students of School for Deaf and Blind Children; Boys and Girls School, Gulbahar; School for Special Children, Yakatoot, Peshawar; and School for Mentally-retarded Children, Pajagi Road, Peshawar.
The speakers, through gestures and postures, highlighted the importance of iodine for human body.
They also elaborated various disabilities caused by iodine deficiency.
The EDO health gave away prizes to participants of the declamation contest.—PPI
