PARACHINAR: People irked by power failures

Published December 22, 2006

PARACHINAR, Dec 21: Angered by frequent power failures, the residents of Parachinar have called upon the government to take serious note of the situation and suspend the responsible officials of the Wapda.

Talking to PPI here on Thursday, the residents complained that frequent power failures in their area had disturbed their routines and terribly affected commercial activities. They said that unannounced power shutdown was now a matter of routine. Sometimes, the electricity was not available for more than 24 hours, they said, adding that marathon sessions of power blackout had been causing them great agony.

They said when local Wapda officials were approached for registering complaints, they often misbehaved with complainants.

They called upon the federal minister for water and power and the NWFP governor to take concrete steps to redress their grievances. They also asked them to take action against the responsible officials.—PPI
