KARACHI, Dec 14: The Sindh High Court on Thursday ordered the temporary closure of a school in a residential area, pending hearing of a suit against it. Allowing an application moved by a resident of the area, Justice Munib Ahmed Khan ordered that the setting up of the K. N. Academy on plots 25 and 26, Al Hamra Co-operative Housing Society, main Tipu Sultan Road, Karachi, was evidently violative of the relevant rules.
Appearing for the plaintiff, Advocate Abid S. Zuberi argued that Tipu Sultan Road was not among the 17 streets declared ‘commercial’ by a provincial government notification, and that no residential premises could be converted to commercial status without objections being invited from residents of the neighbourhood. The federal works ministry, the owner-lessor of the two plots, had not allowed change of land use.
